General Description
The Garibaldi Bridge crosses the Someșul Mic River on Garibaldi Street, near the intersection with Splaiul Independenței and Uzinei Electrice Street. The existing structure, built between 1960 and 1962 from reinforced concrete, had three spans of 14.40 m each, a total length of 50.70 m, and was in critical technical condition (IST = 18, condition V). The bridge served three lanes of road traffic and pedestrian traffic on 2.25 m sidewalks, with no safety barriers between the roadway and pedestrians.
The project involves the complete replacement of the existing bridge with a modern and safe steel-concrete composite structure, integrated into the reconfiguration of Uzinei Electrice Street and adjacent intersections. The aim is to create a modern road artery with four lanes for motor vehicles, bicycle lanes, and sidewalks for pedestrians, ensuring safety and continuity for all modes of transport.
The project is the winner of the BimCon 2024 – Design Category – Infrastructure award and was designed 100% using BIM technology. It also includes a technical first: an inflatable weir with adjustable level and fish ladder, an innovative solution for water management and ecosystem protection.
