The first road passage in the country built with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) – completed and put into use in Oradea

Construction work on the road overpass on Calea Borșului in Oradea was completed in October 2024 and the overpass was opened to traffic, marking an important moment in Romania's road infrastructure: it is the first overpass of its kind in the country to be built with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Program (PNRR).

The passage provides an essential link between the city of Oradea and the Borș border crossing, facilitating mobility and improving traffic flow in the area. The total value of the project was approximately €11 million, of which €9 million came from European funds through the PNRR.

The overpass, built above a roundabout, has a total length of 1,043 meters, with two 300-meter ramps and a bridge approximately 70 meters long with an 18-meter span between the guardrails. The infrastructure includes two lanes in each direction and a height of 5.5 meters, contributing to increased safety and efficiency in road transport.

In addition to the underpass, the project also included the construction of a 2.2 km collector road connecting the roundabout under the underpass to the Intermodal Transport Center and the expressway to the Transylvania Motorway.

The entire investment, worth 53,736,466.14 lei (excluding VAT), was financed through the PNRR – Pillar 1 "Transition to a green economy", Component C4 "Sustainable transport".

The design of this first road passage financed by the PNRR was carried out by our team at Costin and Vlad Design Office, and the works were executed by the association Freyrom SA, Procons Group SRL, and Construcții Erbașu SA, in collaboration with the Oradea City Hall, the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company, and the Ministry of Transport.

We are proud to have contributed to a landmark project for urban mobility and intermodal transport in Romania!
